Juniors · ages 6–9 · Mirfield
For children who need somewhere positive to put their energy.
Active, coached martial arts with clear goals, purposeful games and room to grow. We help children practise focus and control while they learn useful skills and enjoy being part of a group.
For parents
Focus grows through something worth focusing on.
Some children are quiet when they arrive. Others are bursting with energy. Neither is a barrier to joining. We give them a clear task, a manageable challenge and feedback they can use on the next attempt.
Games have a place here because children learn by doing. A game might teach distance, balance, timing or a good decision under pressure. We also explain and practise technique; the activity has a purpose beyond keeping the group busy.
What happens in class?
Students warm up, learn a small number of skills, work with pads or partners under supervision and apply what they have learnt in suitable activities. We ask them to listen, reset, try again and look after the people they train with. The challenge grows as their control grows.
We teach awareness, distance, boundaries and getting help as part of responsible personal safety. Physical skills are taught with control and a clear reason for using them.
Children see themselves handle a task that felt difficult when they began.
Short coaching points and active practice give attention somewhere useful to go.
Students learn what they are working on and how to improve, beyond simply collecting a belt.

Common questions
Before the first visit
My child finds it hard to concentrate. Can they still join?
Yes. We do not require children to arrive with perfect focus. Clear instructions, active practice and appropriate expectations help them take part. Tell us beforehand if there is anything useful we should know.
Will they have to spar?
Beginners are guided into partner work at an appropriate level. Contact is controlled and supervised; no new child is expected to jump straight into open sparring. Competition is optional.
What if they are shy or nervous?
They can watch first, and we can introduce the activity in small steps. You are welcome to watch. Our guide for shy children explains what a supportive class should feel like.
Try a real class
Let your child see the coaching and the group for themselves.
They do not have to be confident or skilled already. Two free classes give you both a chance to decide whether Juniors feels right, with no pressure to join.
