Youths · ages 10–14 · Mirfield
A real challenge for young people ready to find their own way.
Martial arts that respects their age. Students build technique, fitness and good judgement through coaching, partner work and purposeful challenges in a supportive group.
For families
They need a challenge that feels like theirs.
Young people can be self-conscious about starting something new, especially if they think everyone else has trained for years. We teach beginners the foundations and give experienced students a deeper challenge within the same age-appropriate group. No one is measured against somebody else’s start date.
We take the skills seriously and keep the atmosphere respectful. Students learn to work with different partners, practise safely, ask questions and take responsibility for their effort. They can make progress without needing to compete.
What happens in class?
There is a warm-up with a purpose, focused technical work, pad or partner practice and a chance to use skills in changing situations. Coaching may focus on distance, timing, control, entering safely and recovering position. The instructor adjusts challenge and contact to the student and activity.
For personal safety, we prioritise awareness, judgement, boundaries, leaving and getting help. Physical skills sit within that wider picture.
Train alongside young people in a group that takes effort and respect seriously.
Learn, practise, test ideas safely and understand what to work on next.
Set meaningful goals and notice progress in decisions, technique and control.

Common questions
Before the first visit
Is 12 or 14 too late to begin?
No. The class welcomes beginners. We teach the basics clearly and build from the student’s own starting point.
Is sparring or competition compulsory?
Competition is optional. Partner work and contact are introduced in a supervised, controlled way when appropriate; a first visit is about experiencing the class.
What if my child is not sporty?
They do not need to arrive fit or confident. The important question is whether they find the teaching, people and challenge a reasonable fit. Two classes help them decide.
A first step
Give them a chance to judge the class themselves.
The two free classes are normal Youths sessions. They can meet the group, try the coaching and decide whether they want to return. There is no pressure to join.
